Classics week (3)

You're all pretty aware by now that I'm a house head. And you probably also know that I like my house music with some soul, some funk. And where would house music, or any other contemporary music genre, be without the influence of Motown?

Motown left quite the imprint on the music industry and on history altogether. I love Motown tracks because they're real. They're emotional. They're deep and true.

Here are a few of my favorite Motown jams. FYI: each one has been covered, some more than once. Just to further illustrate Motown's influence.

The Marvelettes - The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game

The Undisputed Truth - Smiling Faces

Diana Ross & The Supremes - Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart

Four Tops - Bernadette

  1. Bernadette is such a great song! The others are great as well...those are picks that aren't usually on "Best of" CD's but it sounds like I'll have to listen to the lyrics a bit -- something that I do very little of. Thanks for expanding my musical catalog!

  2. Damn that "Smiling Faces" track is smokin'-- I never heard it before.

Also, good idea throwing Motown some love. Without them, music wouldn't be the same.

I must admit,"Papa was a Rollin' Stone" is on my top 10 of all time.

The song you put up are an example of how shitty pop music is today compred to back then. Have fun listening to Britney and Ashlee Simpson kiddies!

  3. I don't even know where to start on Motown,, There all great songs, I mean everything from that era of music, where else can you actually feel the fire and soul of the singer's passion for the note he or she is singing.
