It is going to be a VERY busy weekend, folks. I'm heading to the Little Dragon show tonight, then Flying Lotus tomorrow, and last but certainly not least, Passion Pit in Milwaukee on Saturday.

I love that the weekend officially begins on Thursday (for my me and my pals at least). Why? Because "we know how to get down in the city!"

Here in Chicago, the temperature is in the high 70s. The sun is shining bright, and the light breeze feels so good! This is the perfect forecast for an insanely wicked weekend. What else does one need to top off a good weekend? An anthem!

Folks, it has been one rough week for this chica. Friday is and, as long as I have a 9-to-5 gig, will probably always be my favorite day of the week. This is the night where I let loose and do exactly what I want to do. It's the kickoff to 50 hours of freedom!

So I normally try to stay away from tracks like this one. David Guetta really does nothing for me, BUT I'll give him props. He knows how to get the party started. And you throw KiD CuDi into the mix. Gaaangsta!

I could never be your woman

Certain songs bring people who are otherwise polar opposites together. There are some songs out there that have the power to define an element of a generation. It's a bizarre phenomenon.

I can't think of anyone in my generation who has never heard "Your Woman" by White Town. And I definitely can't think of anyone who dislikes the song. No matter what your musical taste, it's just a catchy tune. It's got that hook, and those lyrics that speak to 1990s youth suffering from unrequited teenage love.

So I recently heard there was a remix of this track floating around. I downloaded it, and it was definitely lacking. I won't even waste internet space on that one. But then I got my hands on this edit, and although it doesn't capture the same emotions as the original, it is still quite catchy.

Ok...quick disclaimer. I would normally never write about this nonsense nor would I post a photo from the cover of People magazine. This is NOT my thing. But I was channel surfing last night and heard about this Heidi Montag getting 10 procedures done in one day, and it made me sick to my stomach.

The issue is much deeper than just an attention-hungry reality star. I mean, what happened to this young girl to make her believe she wasn't beautiful? These ideas have been stuck in my head since last night. That whole Hollywood industry and lifestyle gives me the heebie jeebies. I could go on and on about how the media is destroying our morals and values, and all that other yip yap. But this is supposed to be about music.

So as I was watching this clip about Montag's plastic surgery addiction, I immediately thought about this song. I'm actually quite surprised that it never really caught on... at least not in the circles I run with. It's ridiculously catchy, and it pounds hard. I think it's a perfect workout song.

Something good is gonna happen

Well, as a matter of fact, a few good somethings already happened today. I breezed to work through a snow storm in less than 30 minutes. The guy at Starbucks gave me my vanilla latte for free. And here's the kicker: I text messaged the only radio station I like, 93.1 XRT, and won tickets to their holiday concert this Friday. All this good fortune before 9 a.m.

Now it's the afternoon, my day has been pretty mediocre, but I can't seem to forget the streak that occurred this morning. I'm going to ride this wave for as long as I can. I have a good feeling about the near future. I'm not sure where I'm going with this, and not knowing is what makes me excited.

Anyhow, I thought these tracks were quite fitting for this mood, this state of happiness and anticipation.

In an effort to keep this blog as meaningful and relevant for myself and for the readers, I never post anything unless I'm truly inspired. If I hear or see something that affects me and I feel the need to share, I do. But for the past few days, I've been sitting here racking my brain trying to figure out what to post. My brain has been passing major gas, and it's been quite aggravating...until now...

So I had my iTunes on shuffle all morning. The tracks played, all upligting jams that are getting me psyched for the weekend. Then this remix of Seal's "Amazing" came on, and I immediately stopped doing what I was preoccupying myself with and signed on to the Joynt.

If you keep up with my Facebook, you know very well that I've had a pretty nice relationship with Lady Luck as of late. I've been spreading my optimism and positivity amongst my closest friends, hoping some of this luck would rub off on them as well. And when I heard this song start playing, Seal took all that positive energy and turned it into a beautiful song. Once that track finished, I had to listen to one of my other favorite Seal remixes, "The Right Life." What a jam! And another groovy track to get you in the Friday spirits.

If you chase her, she will run. So be patient, grasshopper.

I'm not a big fan of mash-ups. Ever since Jay-Z and Linkin Park came out with that horrible mash-up album, I was completely turned off. However, my good pal Justin introduced me to this track yesterday, and I found it to be quite catchy. And really...you can't go wrong with some dope Biggie vocals. And the Justice remix of MGMT's "Electric Feel" has a great beat; it's only natural these two tracks would sound amazing together.

And since Biggie, one of the greatest rappers of all time, passed away on this day 12 years ago, I found this post absolutely fitting. Enjoy...

I love everything that Mylo puts out, from his original tracks to his remixes. He's brilliant. If you're not familiar with Mylo's music, you may have heard "Drop The Pressure" at clubs about four years ago. "In My Arms" also got some decent airplay for those of you who listen to internet radio stations. The video for "In My Arms" might be one of my favorite videos...in this musical genre at least. I'm usually annoyed with the music videos for house tracks, but this one's got a good lil' storyline. My favorite part is the muscle car...good grief I want a muscle car. And dude lets his girl drive it. Stellar! Anyhow, I digress. So...check it out:



As for Bob Sinclar, I like some of his stuff. A lot of it is a bit too cheesy for me. But I will say, I love most of his remixes. So having said that, I want you to listen to this track by Bob Sinclar and remixed by Mylo. It's slightly trancey, but also very catchy. The female vocals perfect the track.

Ready for the weekend!

The weekend has finally arrived...and not soon enough! It's been one crazy week, with the Chicago heat wave (70 degrees in February...madness!) and octo-baby mama drama and Chris Brown beating up on his much hotter, much cooler, much more talented girlfriend. It's been a turbulent few days, and I need a release! I'm going to close out this week the only way I know how...with some hot tracks and dancing, of course!

These three tracks are permanent fixtures on my "getting ready to go out" playlist. They're fun, catchy and vibrant. So if you're feeling as pooped as I am right now and need a little pick-me-up, jam to these tracks and get motivated! It's Friday!

Also, if any of you are in the Chicago area this weekend, I highly recommend attending Madd Soul's performance at Cuatro tonight. Madd Soul is a combination of percussion, trumpet and saxophone played live with Chicago house DJ, David Sabat. I've already seen this group perform quite a few times, and I have probably become their biggest promoter! I'm telling you, if you like to dance, this is the place to be. And the crowd is so lively. The drinks are delicious. No doubt, you'll have a good time.

For all you jazz heads out there who don't mind a lil' groove, a lil' funk, you must check out the Verve Remixed series. These are compilation albums of classic jazz artists remixed by contemporary world-renowned DJs and musicians.

This song, "Come Dance With Me" by Shirley Horn, is such a fun track. To be honest, I heard it for the first time while I was taking a shower. (Thank you, roomie, for introducing me to the Verve.) I immediately started dancing in the shower. Yes, I said it...dancing in the shower...and you know it, my clumsy ass almost fell. Go ahead...I know you're picturing it in your head. Get the giggles out of the way, maniacs.

So as I was saying, this song is too groovy, you cannot help but sway back and forth, tap your feet, bob your head and bounce those shoulders. So please, check it out. And if you like it, you may as well just purchase all the Verve Remixed albums. This particular track is on Verve Remixed 3, which includes songs by the legendary Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan, remixed by artists such as The Postal Service, Brazilian Girls, Junior Boys, Diplo and Danger Mouse.

About the artist: Róisín Murphy has an incredible voice. And she is soooo strange, I love it! She's like a somewhat normal Björk. Which isn't saying much, I know. But she is so funky and fresh. Eeehh...correction: She's like Björk meets Debbie Harry meets Lady Gaga. Yea, that's a much better description.



So this is probably one of my favorite songs...ever. I'm not quite sure if I have ever felt this way about anybody. But just listening to this song MAKES me want to fall in love with my best friend! It's so catchy and groovy!
