Hometown glory

I love Chicago. I talk a lot about moving to another city, another state, even another country. And sure, one day, that is absolutely something I would love to experience. But nothing will ever compare to the feelings that take over my mind and body as I walk through the streets of Chicago. There is a certain comfort – about knowing every crack in the sidewalk, knowing where I can find the perfect drink to heal my open wounds, knowing the perfect place to sit and gaze at the skyline.

I have no problem wandering the city streets totally by myself. As a matter of fact, I sometimes prefer it. I know I'll run into someone I know, or better yet, I'll just strike up a conversation with a complete stranger. Sometimes I just like to walk alone and absorb and take in the views, the noise, the chaos, the peace, etc.

One day, I may leave you Chicago. But I'll always come back. And I'll never forget the experiences and the friendships that were born here. You are the "wonders of my world." You're the gravity that keeps me grounded. Not too many people take the time to remember all the connections they've made, and all the interactions with people that have shaped who they have become. I'll never forget.

I listen to this song, and all I can think of is my first love. Maybe you'll feel the same way.

  2. Great song! I also miss my hometown of Gary, Indiana. But it's different for me. Macedonians took off as soon as they started seeing black faces. It's really a shame. I miss Broadway, Glen Park, Capari Lounge etc...
