Beach fun minus the beach

Due to poor budgeting on my part, I most likely will not be able take any significant vacations in the near future. So although laying out in the sun next to the ocean, piña colada in hand, is my most favorite thing to do, I'll have to live my beach fantasies through music.

Here in Chicago, we have Lake Michigan. That's our version of the beach. It's no Pacific Ocean, but it works. And it makes me happy. So in the meantime, I'll take my iPod to the lake, rest my head on a blanket, gaze at the night sky and dream about the day I finally make it back to the ocean.

Below you will find three of my favorite summer tracks. No matter where I may be, these carefree house beats immediately transport me to the beach. I can feel the sand between my toes, smell the ocean and hear the waves crash. In my mind, I'm wearing my bathing suit and long flowing skirt, dancing along the water. The sun is shining bright, and I'm surrounded by friends. It's a nice place to be, isn't it? Try it.

  1. I hear "beach music" and think Weezer's "Island in the Sun." And "Mr. Jones" by Counting Crows, because I remember hearing it at the pool when I was younger and actually…had a summer.

  2. Both quality songs, P-dub. However, not what I prefer to listen to on the beach.

  3. I'm not much of a Lake Michigan kind of guy, but I totally feel you on the house vibes in the summer-time. There is nothing like blasting some REALLY good house music in Chicago during the summer months(or any month for that matter)!

I've got a couple for you..."Finally" by the Kings of Tomorrow. One of my ALL TIME favorite house tracks. Another great one is "Don't Call Me Baby" by Madison Avenue. Oh, and I CANNOT forget "Red Alert" by Basement Jaxx. Three unbelievable house tracks that totally remind me of summer in Chicago.

Making my way into the city...windows down...sun shining...volume at a totally inappropriate high level...my wifey for lifey in the passanger seat...both of us jammin...life doesn't get much better than that folks!

    P.S.
Sorry to hear about your vacations woes. One month from today Gen & I will be laying oceanside on a beach in Puerto Rico listening to these three tracks! I know ...I'm a jerk! ;^)

  4. David! I love love love that Kings of Tomorrow track. It's also one of my faves. BUT tracking down an mp3 of that song is HARD. I think I may have one at home, but it'll take me forever to find the right one...which reminds me I really need to clean up my music collection. It's a mess! But I promise as soon as I find it, I'ma post that $hit!
